Summary

Ask Kurt Matis what his hosting trifecta includes and you’ll hear a rapid fire: security, flexibility and scalability. As the CEO of Financial Transmission Network, Inc. (FTNI), his business deals with a number of payment receivable options, which means that FTNI is required to meet PCI 2.0 compliance standards for protecting customer payment information. And, because FTNI has a habit of bringing on huge clients that can double or even triple the resources needed to host its site and Web application data, the ability to easily scale to accommodate was a must.

Challenge

FTNI’s eTran platform lets companies scanning checks, receiving automatic clearing house (ACH) payments, or accepting credit card or web payments to consolidate these receivables into one environment and easily post them back to any office accounting or CRM solution.

Being able to work with a host of payment options from one screen makes client’s lives considerably easier. It also makes it extremely difficult for FTNI to meet the highly scrutinized Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards 2.0 (PCI DDS 2.0) put in place to protect cardholders against misuse of their personal information. FTNI needed a hosting partner that understood security and could make it easy to meet the PCI DDS 2.0 requirements.

Additionally, FTNI is growing rapidly, bringing on large financial and insurance clients on a regular basis. These types of businesses have the power to double and triple the resources FTNI needs to collect, process and store customer data. The company’s hosting provider had to not only perform under pressure, but had to allow for easy, rapid scaling of resources.

Solution

Having its requirements in mind, FTNI banked on FireHost.

When researching hosting providers, Matis identified with the fact that FireHost has always considered eCommerce customers one of its primary focal points. “These guys have dealt with PCI and payment issues since the beginning, which brought a lot of credibility for me right away,” he said.

Digging further, Matis was blown away by the company’s PCI DDS 2.0 compliant cloud hosting option. “FireHost introduced the idea of public cloud hosting with security that met PCI 2.0 compliance standards – wow. This was huge to me because we handle credit card data and ACH bank information every day. We have to make sure our hosting provider is putting the security and principles in place to protect that data.”

FireHost works to do the heavy hosting and security lifting so clients can focus on what they do best. This fully-managed approach was something that matched with Matis’ needs. “We are great at creating application software for the financial services industry, but we are not a hosting provider and didn’t want to act like one. We rely heavily on FireHost to take the burden of securing the site and constantly monitoring the ongoing threats on the Internet off of us. And they do a great job of it.”

And, FireHost’s extreme scalability was not lost on Matis, either. Now when FTNI adds a new client or has a quick need to add resources, Matis simply logs into the FireHost Customer Portal and amends his requirements for servers, storage, memory and a host of other items. “When more resources are needed they are required immediately, not 30, 60 or 90 days from now. FireHost lets us dial up what we need when we need it, then dial back down when we don’t need as much. It’s easy, it’s convenient and it helps us serve our customers better. It also helps us keep costs down when our resource requirements are lower.”

Matis goes on to share, “The truth is that we could not run our business without FireHost, which has the security and scalability we need in our processing environment.”
